Why age 7
Around age 7 a child has a mix of baby and adult teeth. That mix shows how the jaws are growing and where the adult teeth are headed.
What usually happens next

Often, nothing yet. Many children need no treatment yet, and we tell you that plainly. We check again as more adult teeth come in.
When early treatment helps
A few problems are easier to correct while a child is growing, such as a crossbite or a very narrow upper jaw. Dr. Breckett explains what early treatment fixes, how long it lasts, and whether braces may still follow.
Questions about early checks for children
My child still has baby teeth. Is a visit too early?
No. A first check at 7 is meant to happen while baby teeth are still there. If you notice a problem earlier, come in sooner.
Does a first check mean my child gets braces?
No. A check is a look and a conversation. Many children leave with a plan to watch and a date for the next check.
